Google has officially widened its wearable portfolio with the debut of the Fitbit Edge, a strategic addition designed to bridge the gap between the minimalist Fitbit Air and the high end Pixel Watch. Retailing at 179.99 dollars, the Edge blends the sleek profile of a slim band with a vibrant OLED screen, allowing users to manage everything from navigation and weather updates to their favorite playlists without needing to reach for a phone.
Beyond its physical design, the Edge leans heavily into artificial intelligence by integrating Google Health Coach, which is powered by Gemini. For those with a Google Health Premium subscription, this AI assistant analyzes personal medical data and fitness metrics to curate personalized weekly workout routines that shift dynamically based on the user’s calendar. The device also incorporates Health Guardian technology, a system capable of flagging long term shifts in health markers like insulin resistance and blood pressure.
Fitness enthusiasts will find several hardware upgrades under the hood, most notably a built-in GPS that Google claims is 40 percent more accurate than previous iterations. The tracker can automatically detect and log up to 100 different activities using movement context, while offering real time prompts during guided exercises. Sleep tracking has also seen a boost, with stage detection accuracy improving by 15 percent to provide more nuanced recovery insights.
Built for longevity and durability, the Fitbit Edge offers a battery life of up to seven days and remains water resistant down to 50 meters. It arrives in four standard colors including Obsidian, Fog, Olive, and Canyon, though collectors can opt for a special Stephen Curry edition priced at 219.99 dollars. Preorders are currently open via the Google Store ahead of its official retail release on October 27.
