Memorial Day, which always falls on the last Monday in May, is a day when America salutes its fallen heroes, honoring service members who died in service to their country.
Kroger is just one of a handful of businesses that goes beyond offering sales on hot dogs, burgers and beer.
The company also offers all military members, both active duty and veterans, a 10% discount on purchases storewide. Of course, there are exclusions: The discount doesn’t apply to items like alcohol, tobacco, and lottery tickets, a Kroger customer service agent told TheStreet.
But still, with the high cost of groceries these days, any deal is welcome.

Kroger is open on Memorial Day
Today is the day to shop for veterans who want a storewide discount.
And even if you’re not a veteran, Kroger still has plenty of its beloved meal deals and other discounts in honor of Memorial Day.

Kroger among the most trusted businesses in the U.S.
Last week, on May 19, Axios released its annual Axios Harris Poll 100 “reputation rankings” list. Kroger came in at #27, a big jump from 2025 when the company ranked 35.
“This recognition belongs to our associates,” said Kroger CEO Greg Foran in an announcement. “Every day, more than 400,000 of them help families put fresh, affordable food on the table. It is their care and commitment that builds trust with our customers and communities.”

The Axios Harris Poll 100 surveys more than 16,000 Americans on how they view the country’s most visible companies, across measures including trust, culture, ethics, vision, products and services, relevance, character and trajectory. Kroger has regularly received high marks on the survey, consistently ranking among America’s most visible and trusted companies.

At the company’s most recent earnings announcement in March, Foran highlighted Fourth Quarter and Full-Year 2025 Results:
- Q4 identical sales without fuel increased (tracks how much customers are spending on groceries) 2.4%.
- Q4 total sales reached $34.7 billion.
- Q4 adjusted e-commerce sales rose 20%. Q4 earnings per share (EPS) was $1.35.
- Q4 adjusted EPS came in at $1.28.
- Full-year identical sales without fuel increased 2.9%.
- The company expects $400 million in e-commerce operating profit improvements in 2026.
- Kroger forecasts 1% to 2% identical sales growth and adjusted EPS of $5.10 to $5.30 for 2026.
