Apple has rolled out iOS 27.2, bringing a suite of updates to several core apps, but the most impactful changes are hidden within FaceTime. Among the additions is a significant expansion of Dual Capture, a tool that allows users to stream their front and rear cameras simultaneously. While previously restricted to one-on-one conversations, this feature now functions during group calls for those using an iPhone 17 or newer. For parents wanting to share a chaotic living room scene with grandparents without constantly flipping the camera, this update transforms the device into a true window into their world.
Beyond the visual bells and whistles, Apple is making strides in accessibility by integrating third party support for sign language interpreters and live captioning. Users can now access a dedicated sign language menu via the options icon to connect with established Video Relay Service apps directly within the call interface. This ensures that professional interpreters can join as participants seamlessly. Additionally, while Apple continues to offer its own automated live captions, users now have more flexibility to integrate external captioning services tailored to their specific needs.
Hardware owners may find another surprise if they are using an iPhone Duo. The latest update introduces Edge Light, which effectively turns the perimeter of the phone screen into a soft light source to brighten the user’s face during video chats. Similar to how lighting works on certain Mac models, this removes the need for bulky external ring lights. By navigating through the Control Center during a call, users can toggle the effect and fine tune both the brightness and color temperature to suit their environment.
