Verizon is introducing a new monthly subscription fee for users looking to leverage the latest connectivity features found in iOS 27. Starting soon, customers will have to pay ten dollars every month to access iPhone Handoff, a tool that lets a single phone number function across two different iPhones. This announcement came as part of the reveal for the iPhone Duo, with the company confirming that the service will specifically support both those new folding handsets and the flagship iPhone 18 Pro models.
The feature aims to give power users more versatility by allowing them to toggle their active cellular status between a primary device and a companion phone without needing multiple numbers. For example, someone might keep their connection active on a compact iPhone Duo while traveling and then shift it over to an iPhone 18 Pro when they arrive at the office. While the transition happens seamlessly across the 5G network, Verizon noted that only one device can remain active at any given moment.
This pricing decision puts Verizon at a disadvantage compared to some of its biggest competitors. T Mobile has already rolled out similar support for iPhone Handoff but does so at half the cost, charging users only five dollars per month. Meanwhile, AT&T remains on the sidelines, indicating that it currently has no immediate plans to bring the functionality to its own subscribers.
International carriers are taking varying approaches to the rollout as well. In the United Kingdom, EE is preparing to launch its version of the service, offering it for free to top tier plan members or five pounds for everyone else. Similarly, Germany’s Deutsche Telekom has integrated the feature into its higher end MagentaMobil plans while charging nearly seven euros for standard users.
